The DC Streetcar on H Street, a much-anticipated streetcar project on H Street and near Capital Hill, is moving forward. The Department of Transportation in late February presented renderings of the DC Streetcar on H Street to the DC Commission of Fine Arts and the Historic Preservation Review Board. These presentations put the DC Street Car on H Street one step closer to reviving a form of transportation popular more than 50 years ago in the District by late next year or early 2014.

The Wonder Bread Factory in Shaw neighborhood, where row houses and condo conversions are dominating the market, is now well past the day it was supposed to welcome its first tenant who signed on late last year, but those plans recently abruptly came to a halt.

The Wonder Bread Factory in Shaw, which was to be the first at the revamped building at 641 S. St. NW, first leased 20,817 square feet to WorkSpaces LLC and planned to move in when the project is complete in January 2013.

But since then, WorkSpaces LLC has backed out of the deal, as it abruptly canceled plans just after announcing it had hired four new employees to the location. It also said it would close its New York and Baltimore locations.

Development in Petworth community, a mix of brick row houses and single-family homes tucked between Arkansas Avenue and North Capital Street Northwest, is forging ahead. This community has come a long way from its origins as two privately owned country estates in the 1800s.
