H Street is overflowing with news on new entertainment, restaurants, grocery stores and more. To start, the former Kramerbooks managers are set to open a new bookstore on H Street. Solid State Books will open this fall on H Street, in the new Apollo Building development, next to the Whole Foods.

There’s also the renovation of Boundary Road, which is set to reopen as a place called “Bar Elena,” which will include classic arcade games for all you nostalgia lovers out there.

Dubbed the “most progressive community” in D.C., new properties at 17 Solar are giving buyers an option for solar-reliant housing that reduces energy consumption.

This eco-friendly housing project is just two blocks east of Capitol Hill and two blocks south of the Atlas District in the Rosedale and Kingman Park area just off the lively H Street corridor area. There are 26 units all powered by rooftop solar panels and all more efficient insulations than in the average home.

Floor plans range from first-floor flats to two-story stacked townhomes above the flats. Two stacked corner townhome models are also available. In fact, most of these 18 units are still available, according to the project’s website.

DC is planning a 22-mile priority streetcar system throughout the city. Part of that project is a 9-mile north-south streetcar line from Takoma in Northwest to Buzzard Point in Southwest, which will cross the neighborhoods of the Southwest Waterfront, Downtown, Shaw, Columbia Heights, Petworth, and Takoma.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will study the 9-mile line for the next 12 to 14 months to access construction challenges in each neighborhood, including crossing the National Mall. They will also consider how the streetcar system will integrate with the existing Metro bus routes that run parallel to the proposed streetcar line. In addition, the department will engage with the public on parking and traffic concerns.

H Street Corridor condos include several new condo projects in this Northeast section of the District like the Maia, which includes 84 one and two bedroom units.

The Maia at 1350 Maryland Avenue is a development by Valor Development on the site of the Faith Bible Church.  It’s still in planning phases and set for delivery in 2014.

H Street is an up-and-coming area of the District. Its residents are diverse, ranging from younger professionals to young families to seniors. H Street corridor condos will help shape revitalization here, where the D.C. Government is supporting an H Street Revival plan. The DC Streetcar on H Street, a much-anticipated streetcar project on H Street and near Capital Hill, is moving forward. The Department of Transportation in late February presented renderings of the DC Streetcar on H Street to the DC Commission of Fine Arts and the Historic Preservation Review Board. These presentations put the DC Street Car on H Street one step closer to reviving a form of transportation popular more than 50 years ago in the District by late next year or early 2014.

The DC Streetcar on H Street will be the first phase of the DC Streetcar project, followed by segments in Anacostia and in other parts of the city after that. The main goal with the DC Streetcar on H Street is to link neighborhoods with an alternative mode of transportation…

The new development on H Street, NE will be a mixed-use project to include new homes and retail on the 10,800-square-foot city-owned lot at 1300 H Street in Ward 6. It’s the former site of R.L. Christian Library, which opened in 1982, but has been vacant for two years and is now a brownfield site. After reviewing six proposals submitted in August, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development awarded proposal rights to redevelop the site.
