News on restaurants, events and things to do in H Street for late summer and early fall.
H Street is overflowing with news on new entertainment, restaurants, grocery stores and more. To start, the former Kramerbooks managers are set to open a new bookstore on H Street. Solid State Books will open this fall on H Street, in the new Apollo Building development, next to the Whole Foods.
There’s also the renovation of Boundary Road, which is set to reopen as a place called “Bar Elena,” which will include classic arcade games for all you nostalgia lovers out there.
If you’re longing for the days you spent studying abroad, check out the upcoming twin eateries Spile & Spigot Tap House and above the Blue Diner. First-time restaurateurs (and father-son duo) Lawrence and Justin Harbin will be opening the British pub and American-style diner this fall.
Winos will love the new wine bar Dio, owned by under-30 Stacey Khoury-Diaz. Khoury-Diaz, 28, grew up right smack in the middle of wine country—Sonoma County, California. Dio is named after the goddess of wine, Dionysus, and aims to focus on natural wine.
Don’t overlook tried-and-true staples like the H Street Country Club, where you can play mini-golf, shuffleboard and Skeeball too.
Buildings in the area are constantly changing their uses to resonate with the ever-changing area. For example, plans to demolish the former R.L. Christian Library which served as the Capital Fringe Festival’s box office the past few years, have moved forward. The new building coming will be four stories tall with 36 residential units and ground floor retail.
