Woodley Park Features & Amenities
The main commercial area is centered around the Woodley Park Metro station. You’ll find a surprisingly large mix of international restaurants within a few blocks of the Metro. We like Open City, Umi Japanese Cuisine, and District Kitchen. Some of the other highlights of Woodley Park include Rock Creek Park to the east, the historic Omni Shoreham Hotel just off Calvert Street NW, the grand Marriott Wardman Park Hotel near the Metro, and the entrance to the National Zoo at the northeastern corner of the neighborhood. Check the Zoo's website for fun family-oriented events throughout the year including “Boo at the Zoo” on Halloween and “Zoo Lights” around the holidays. Four private schools are located at Woodley’s Park northern end: Washington International, Maret, St. Alban’s, and National Cathedral.
Woodley Park Property Values
Woodley Park was planned as a suburban community along Connecticut Ave NW in the 1890's. It was named after an elegant home in the area, owned by Francis Scott Key’s uncle, John Ross Key. The neighborhood was originally envisioned to center around a grand avenue lined with elegant homes. It is prized for its accessibility and close proximity to downtown DC, all while exuding a very residential vibe.
Real estate prices in Woodley Park are on par with the nearby neighborhoods of Cleveland Park and Adams Morgan, which is on the higher end for the District as a whole but not outrageous for Northwest DC. Woodley Park is mostly high-rise apartments and condos along Connecticut Ave NW, and you'll find stately single-family row houses as the terrain slowly rises to the west. There are spectacular views to be had for relatively affordable prices in many of the high-rise buildings that face Rock Creek Park.
Woodley Park Transportation & Location
The area has its own self-named Metro station on the Red Line, and the Cleveland Park Metro on the same line is just a few blocks to the north. Several bus lines service the neighborhood, especially on Massachusetts Ave NW and Connecticut Ave NW. These include the Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-McPherson Square DC Circulator bus. Both Massachusetts Ave NW and Connecticut Ave NW provide direct driving routes into downtown DC and out to Montgomery County, Maryland. The Capital Beltway is less than six miles away and parking isn’t as difficult as other busy DC neighborhoods. For a more scenic drive, try Beach Dr NW through Rock Creek Park. Interstate 66 and Interstate 395 each begin about three miles south of the neighborhood, and lead out into Virginia and to the Anacostia Freeway (DC Route 295), respectively.
Woodley Park is located in Northwest DC, and its boundaries are the National Zoo and Rock Creek to the east, Calvert St NW, Cleveland Ave NW, and Garfield St NW to the south, 34th St NW to the west, and Woodley Rd NW and Klingle Rd NW to the north.
