Mount Pleasant

The sleepy, park-like Mount Pleasant neighborhood is one of our favorite areas in the entire city. Real Estate in Mount Pleasant is expensive but still a great value compared to other neighborhoods that offer similar amenities. The majority of sales are stately single-family row houses with mature trees, lush gardens, and gorgeous stonewalls. There are also a number of condos clustered along Mount Pleasant St NW and 16th St NW.

Mount Pleasant Features & Amenities

Bordered on the west by sprawling Rock Creek Park and the National Zoo (two of the most amazing places in all of Washington, DC), Mount Pleasant offers incredible convenience combined with fantastic amenities. Tucked away from the frantic pace of 16th St NW and the rapidly evolving Columbia Heights, the commercial center of Mount Pleasant is all focused around the street by the same name. While the DC USA Shopping Mall to the east is anchored almost entirely by chain stores, Mount Pleasant St NW is dominated by quaint, locally owned businesses. Heller’s Bakery has been a neighborhood institution for close to a century. Radius Pizza is a local favorite to grab a slice and a beer with friends. Raven is another popular choice and one of the oldest bars in DC. On Saturdays in May through November, from 9am to 1pm you’ll find a small but lively farmer’s market at the small park across the street from Heller's.

Mount Pleasant Property Values

The sleepy, park-like Mount Pleasant neighborhood is one of our favorite areas in the entire city. The neighborhood got its name from Samuel P. Brown, who bought land in the area during the Civil War and named it Mount Pleasant Village since it was the highest elevation area of Pleasant Plains. Actress Helen Hayes and Washington Senators pitcher Walter Johnson once called the neighborhood home. It’s also now called “A Village in the City,” as it gives off an international feel with a small-town quaintness.

Mount Pleasant Transportation & Location

Mount Pleasant does not have a Metro station in the neighborhood, but the Columbia Heights stop on the Green and Yellow Lines is a short walk east of the area. The Cleveland Park and Woodley Park stations on the Red Line are a little farther away to the west. There are several bus lines that service Mount Pleasant, especially on the 16th St NW. That road also provides great access to downtown DC and out to Silver Spring, Maryland. Interstate 66 and Interstate 395 begin about three miles south of the neighborhood, and lead out into Virginia and to the Anacostia Freeway, respectively.

Mount Pleasant is located in Northwest DC, and its borders are 16th St NW to the east, Harvard St NW to the south, Rock Creek Park to the west, and Piney Branch Park to the north.
