Adams Morgan Features & Amenities

Known for its nightlife and eclectic mix of restaurants, Adams Morgan is a place to see and be seen. The activity centers around 18th Street NW and has plenty to offer. Though Adams Morgan is named after DC’s first two segregated schools, Thomas P. Morgan Elementary and John Quincy Adams Elementary, that couldn’t be a more unfitting history for a neighborhood known for being one of the most ethnically diverse in the city. Adams Morgan is one of the most interesting places to live in DC, attracting a mix of hipsters, salsa lovers, and boutique shoppers. Real estate in Adams Morgan includes co-ops, condos, and rowhouses.

Several independently owned stores provide an intriguing shopping experience, from used bookstores to vintage clothing. There are dozens of restaurants to choose from; be sure to check out Cashion’s Eat Place, Tryst Coffeehouse, Pasta Mia, the Diner, and the Grill from Ipanema. Adams Morgan is widely known for its bar scene, with over 30 establishments catering to all age groups and interests, including hotspots such as Madam’s Organ (for live music) and Habana Village (for salsa lessons). Festivals are also a big part of Adams Morgan culture, including Restaurant Week in January, Festivus in the winter, Adams Morgan Day in September, and Crafty Bastards in the fall. For those seeking outdoor activities, the northwest corner of Adams Morgan borders the National Zoo, and Rock Creek Park is just a few blocks away.

Adams Morgan Transportation & Location

The closest Metro stops are the Columbia Heights and U Street Stations on the Green and Yellow Lines and Woodley Park-Zoo-Adams Morgan Station on the Red Line. You can also take the Circulator Bus to get to Adams Morgan, using the Woodley Park-Adams Morgan-McPherson Square route. Owning a car is not a necessity if you choose to live in Adams Morgan, as there are a great deal of amenities within walking distance in the neighborhood, especially on Columbia Road. If you do wish to drive, both Connecticut Avenue NW and 16th Street NW provide good routes into downtown DC and out to the Maryland suburbs. Interstate 66 and Interstate 395 begin about three miles south of the area and head out into Virginia and the Anacostia Freeway (DC Route 295), respectively.

Adams Morgan lies within Northwest DC, and is bordered by Harvard St NW and Adams Mill Rd NW to the north, by Adams Mill Rd NW, Calvert St NW, Columbia Rd NW, and Connecticut Ave NW to the west, by Florida Ave NW and U St NW to the south, and by 16th St NW to the east.
