Dupont Circle Features & Amenities
The area features a number of think tanks, museums, and embassies, as well as an eclectic mix of restaurants and bars. Three of the most popular restaurants among DC locals are Nora, which specializes in organic small farm cuisine, Circa, which serves up reasonably priced all American style food, and Lauriol Plaza, which offers Mexican style cuisine. Bier Baron offers one of the best beer selections in all of Washington.
Dupont has no shortage of cultural offerings and plenty of vibrant nightlife. The geographical center of Dupont Circle is the traffic circle, which doubles as a park with plenty of benches, gardens, and grassy patches perfect for relaxing. If you’re in the area during the warmer months of the year, be sure to check out the fountain in the center of the traffic circle/park; it’s one of the most unique water features in all of DC. If you happen to have a furry friend there is a fantastic dog park at 1800 New Hampshire Ave NW. Diego’s Hair Salon just North of the circle has been a local institution for nearly 50 years; affordable top-notch service makes this our pick for the best place to get a haircut in all of DC. There are plenty of shopping options in the area, including Ann Taylor Loft, Blue Mercury, and G Star Raw jeans. Kramerbooks is located in Dupont and is one of the best bookstores in the District. There is a year-round farmers market on Sunday morning in the neighborhood, which is one of the largest in DC. If you’re looking to get away from the bustle of the city, Rock Creek Park borders Dupont’s western edge.
Dupont Circle Property Values
Dupont Circle is one DC neighborhood that truly has a little bit of everything that makes this city so special. It is one of the most famous neighborhoods in DC and also one of the most sought after to live in despite being one of the most expensive options. The area was part of the “Old City” of Washington, DC, and is named after Civil War admiral Samuel Francis Dupont. Prior to 1882, it was known as Pacific Circle.
Dupont Circle real estate is a mix of high-rise condos and rowhouses punctuated by the occasional embassy or art gallery. The neighborhood is a designated DC Historic District, which allows tax credits and incentives for commercial property owners to rehabilitate their businesses.
Dupont Circle Transportation & Location
The neighborhood has its own self-named Metro stop on the Red Line, and several other Metro stations are within walking distance, including Foggy Bottom-GWU, Farragut West, and McPherson Square on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines; Farragut North on the Red Line; and U Street on the Green and Yellow Lines. Several bus lines run through the area, including two Circulator routes. While you can get by easily without a car in the neighborhood, 16th St NW, Massachusetts Ave NW, and Connecticut Ave NW all provide direct routes out of the city. Interstate 66 starts a few blocks from Dupont Circle and runs out to Virginia.
Dupont Circle is located within Northwest DC, and its borders are Massachusetts Ave NW, Florida Ave NW, and U St NW to the north, 14th St NW to the east, Rhode Island Ave NW and M St NW to the south, and 22nd St NW, P St NW, and 23rd St NW to the west.
