The heart of the neighborhood is Tenley Circle, where Wisconsin Ave NW, Nebraska Ave NW, and Yuma St NW meet. Wisconsin Ave NW is the area’s commercial strip, and includes a great deal of retail spots. There is a Whole Foods and a Safeway grocery store in the neighborhood. Shopping options include both Best Buy and The Container Store. Dining choices include Guapo’s Mexican, Pete’s Apizza, Le Chat Noir French restaurant, Café of India, and Tanad Thai Cuisine. Fort Reno, one of the Civil War forts that were erected to protect Washington, was located in Tenleytown at the highest natural point in DC. Tenleytown is a historically significant neighborhood in Northwest DC that has a little bit of everything. It is lauded for its close proximity to downtown DC while still giving off a vibe of a town all its own. The roots of the neighborhood go back to the late 18th Century, when it was named “Tennally’s Town” after tavern owner John Tennally. Over time the spelling was changed to its current form. Chain Bridge, which connects DC to Virginia and George Washington Memorial Parkway, is less than three miles southwest of Tenleytown. Nearby Connecticut Ave NW offers a thoroughfare into downtown DC.
Tenleytown is located in Northwest DC, and its rough borders are 42nd St NW, Warren St NW, and 43rd St NW to the west, Fessenden St NW to the north, Nebraska Ave NW and 39th St NW to the east, and Van Ness St NW to the south.
