Park View

Park View, also known as Park Morton, is a Northwest DC neighborhood on the rise that offers a great location to its residents. New retail and residential space has sprung up in the last few years, and will continue to do so. The name of the area comes from the views east over the Old Soldier’s Home campus, which used to include a large public park modeled after New York City’s Central Park. Park View real estate consists mostly of old, historic Wardman townhouses.

Palisades Features & Amenities

MacArthur Blvd NW is the home to almost all of the neighborhood’s commerce, including numerous restaurants between the Chain Bridge and Georgetown Reservoir. Just a few of the local favorites include Bistro Aracosia, Chen’s Chinese, Et Voila!, Bambu Asian, and BlackSalt. There is also a Safeway grocery store on that strip and a year-round farmer’s market on Sundays. If that’s not enough, Georgetown is a quick drive or bus ride away and offers much more.

The area is home to several parks, including from east to west Foundry Branch Valley, Reservoir Playground, Fletcher’s Cove, Battery Kemble, Palisades Playground, and Dalecarlia Reservoir Grounds. The Capital Crescent Trail and Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath also run the length of the neighborhood and provide more green space. Another highlight of the Palisades is its annual 4th of July parade, which helps further the area’s small town feel.

Palisades Property Information

The Palisades is an idyllic neighborhood that consists of a long strip of land running along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and Potomac River in the westernmost part of DC. It is named after the wall-like bluffs that it sits on, up over the Potomac. The neighborhood was home to the Great Falls Electric Railway, which ran from Georgetown to Glen Echo more than a century ago.

Palisades real estate consists of a mix of townhouses and detached homes, mostly in the bungalow, colonial, and Cape Cod style.

Palisades Transportation & Location

There is no Metro station within the Palisades, although the Rosslyn stop on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines is 1-2 miles away for residents of the neighborhood’s southeastern corner. The M4, D5, and D6 Metrobus lines run on MacArthur Blvd NW and help connect the area to other parts of the District. MacArthur Blvd NW and Canal Rd NW provide direct access out to the Maryland suburbs or into Georgetown, the Key Bridge, and downtown DC. The Chain Bridge to Virginia starts in the Palisades and accesses the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

The Palisades is situated within Northwest DC, and consists of a narrow 3-mile stretch running from Foundry Branch Valley Park and Georgetown at its southeastern end all the way up to the DC-Maryland border at its northwestern end. The narrow neighborhood is squeezed in between Canal Road NW and MacArthur Boulevard NW.
