Chevy Chase Features & Amenities
Nearly all the commercial activity in the area is on Connecticut Ave NW. Blue 44 Restaurant and Bar gets our vote for the best American-style cuisine and the 90-year-old Avalon Theatre for the best place to take in a show. Magruder’s Supermarket and the American City Diner are also longtime staples of the neighborhood.
Chevy Chase Property Values
Chevy Chase is a wonderful mix of urban convenience and suburban tranquility. The neighborhood was originally a "streetcar suburb" of the old streetcar that ran from downtown DC to Montgomery County. It derives its name all the way back to an old song, “The Ballad of Chevy Chase,” which was written about 14th Century skirmishes in northern England. The neighborhood has grown steadily due to its detached single-family homes on good-sized lots.
There are a number of home styles to choose from, including bungalows, four squares, Victorians, Tudors, colonials, and Cape Cods. Chevy Chase is very popular with families due to its quiet tree-lined streets and convenience to both the Metro and Rock Creek Park. Real estate in Chevy Chase comes at a premium, but it is a wonderful place to work and live. Older, less expensive housing stock in Chevy Chase is becoming increasingly difficult to find as both homeowners and developers have made great returns on their investments in the neighborhood.
Chevy Chase Transportation & Location
Chevy Chase does not have a Metro stop directly within it, but is located within walking distance of three Red Line stops: from north to south these are Friendship Heights, Tenleytown-AU, and Van Ness-UDC. Being a little farther away from the epicenter of DC, Chevy Chase is one of the more car-friendly communities in the District. Connecticut Ave NW provides a straight shot downtown and Rock Creek Parkway is close by and offers a more scenic route downtown. The Capital Beltway is just a few miles north on Connecticut Ave NW and Western Ave NW leads drivers to the Chain Bridge, George Washington Memorial Parkway, and northern Virginia.
Chevy Chase lies entirely within Northwest DC, and it boundaries are Reno Rd NW, 41st St NW, and Western Ave NW the west, Pinehurst Parkway Park to the north, Oregon Ave NW and Rock Creek Park to the east, and Broad Branch Rd NW and Nebraska Ave NW to the south.
