Friendship Heights Features & Amenities

Since it’s also one of the more affluent areas in DC, Friendship Heights caters as a retail mecca to the well-heeled crowd with a wide variety of high-end stores and excellent restaurants. Most but not all of these are part of the Chevy Chase Pavilion and Mazza Gallerie. H&M, Neiman-Marcus, Williams-Sonoma, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Whole Foods are big draws for the shopping crowds. We recommend Matisse Cafe for excellent French cuisine and a large wine selection. If you blew the bank shopping earlier in the day, the Satay Club is a great value for freshly prepared Asian fare in a casual atmosphere. The neighborhood is home to a number of larger companies including the Geico Insurance Agency and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, as well as a number of broadcast media companies.

Friendship Heights Property Values

Friendship Heights, like Chevy Chase and Takoma, is a DC neighborhood that extends itself over the border into Maryland. It has a distinctly suburban feel despite being close to all the amenities the District has to offer. Real estate is mostly condominium and apartment options with side streets filled with detached, single-family homes and rowhouses. Friendship Heights’ real estate definitely runs on the pricy side– the average listing in the neighborhood is above $1 million. That said, the area has a great deal to offer and is easily walkable.

Friendship Heights Transportation & Location

The neighborhood has its own self-named Metro stop on the Red Line, and the Tenleytown-AU stop on the same line is within walking distance from the southern end of the neighborhood. There are several bus lines that service the neighborhood, including Montgomery County’s Ride On buses. Wisconsin Ave NW provides a direct route into Georgetown or out to Montgomery County, Maryland, and the Capital Beltway, which is about four miles away. The Chain Bridge into Virginia and the George Washington Memorial Parkway are close by via Western Ave NW. Nearby Connecticut Ave NW offers a good route into downtown DC.

Friendship Heights is situated within Northwest DC, and its boundaries are Western Ave NW and Montgomery County, Maryland, to the northwest, 41st St and Reno Rd NW to the east, and Fessenden St NW, 43rd St NW, and River Rd NW to the south.
