Though Chevy Chase is equipped with a downtown area, crowds are never an issue. Though it does not hold status as a historic district, residents and developers have helped maintain the area's original purpose. Though shops, restaurants, and bars are minimal, Chevy Chase does enjoy the presence of a library, a community center, two supermarkets, a handful of restaurants including the American City Diner, the historic Avalon Theatre, and Politics & Prose Bookstore.
