Buying a fixer-upper in Washington, DC is a great way to save money and have renovations done yourself, the way you want them done. When flippers purchase a home and renovate it, they are often profiting $200,000-$300,000 when they sell the property in the current DC real estate economy. Cutting out the middle man could lead to a great amount of savings for a home buyer. One neighborhood in the District that offers a number of fixer-uppers is Petworth. More and more of these properties are being snatched up by developers and renovated for a large profit. Petworth is a neighborhood on the rise in the last few years, and it offers bargains compared to nearby neighborhoods Columbia Heights, U Street Corridor, and Shaw. Much of the real estate in this area consists of brick row homes that are nearly a century old. There are several dining options in the area, including Chez Billy, Domku, and the Petworth Citizen. Qualia Coffee offers one of the best cups in DC. For your own food shopping, there is a Yes! Organic Market and a Safeway in the neighborhood that are quite popular, and the Petworth Farmers Market runs on Saturdays from May to October. For recreational purposes, Rock Creek Park is located to the west of Petworth and Piney Branch Park to the southwest. For public transportation, the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station is at the southern end of the neighborhood and the Fort Totten stop is at the northern end.
