Petworth Property Values

Petworth is one of the larger neighborhoods in Northwest Washington DC and is an area undergoing tremendous revitalization. Petworth’s name comes from the early 19th Century estate in the area of Colonel John Taylor, at the time one of the wealthiest people in America. Petworth is characterized by tree-lined streets and brick row houses that were constructed in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Many of these homes were built by the D.J. Dunnigan Company or Cafritz Builders.

Today Petworth real estate is a hotbed of activity due to investors renovating and reselling homes all over the neighborhood. With substantially larger lots and homes than many more expensive neighborhoods to the south, Petworth is popular with value minded buyers looking for a single-family home for the same price as a co-op or condo in other parts of the city. Condos are also available in the neighborhood, mostly in close proximity to the Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro stop.

Petworth Transportation & Location

The Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro stop on the Green and Yellow Lines services the southern end of the neighborhood and the Fort Totten stop, where the Red, Yellow, and Green Lines converge, is located a few blocks from the northern end. There are a number of bus lines that provide transportation to the area, especially on Georgia Ave NW, 16th St NW, and 14th St NW. Those three roads and New Hampshire Ave NW also provide direct routes into downtown DC and out to Silver Spring, Maryland, and the Capital Beltway, which is less than six miles away.

Petworth is situated within Northwest DC, and its boundaries are Missouri Ave NW to the north, North Capitol St NW to the east, Rock Creek Church Rd NW and Spring Rd NW to the south, and 16th St NW, Arkansas Ave NW, and Georgia Ave NW to the west.
