The neighborhood was originally called Crystal Springs for the pure water that flowed nearby. There are several bus lines that service the area, and 16th St NW, 14th St NW, 13th St NW, and Georgia Ave NW all provide direct routes downtown for drivers. Parking is not an issue in the neighborhood, and the Capital Beltway is a little more than 3 miles to the north.
Brightwood lies entirely within Northwest DC, and its borders are roughly 16th St NW and Rock Creek Park to the west, Dahlia St NW to the north, Georgia Ave NW to the east, and Military Rd NW and Missouri Ave NW to the south.
