Three Stars Brewing is located in the northern end of Riggs Park along with Hellbender Brewery toward the southern end of the neighborhood. There are not many more retail options in the area, but nearby neighbors Takoma, DC, and Takoma Park, Maryland, to the north provide a variety of shopping and dining choices. Lamond Playground and Riggs Road Playground offer recreation for children. Fort Circle Park at the southern end of the neighborhood is a good place to get away from city living. The 8-mile Metropolitan Branch Trail for bikers, joggers, and walkers will eventually along the western side of Riggs Park, connecting Silver Spring, Maryland with the National Mall.
Riggs Park, which is also called Lamond Riggs, is a northern DC neighborhood with relatively low real estate prices and a great deal of potential. The area is almost entirely residential, and is the only DC neighborhood that borders both Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, Maryland.
There are big plans for the intersection of Riggs Rd NE and South Dakota Ave NE, which is next to Fort Totten Metro Station. Fort Totten Square and ART Place at Fort Totten are both in the works and will bring a Walmart, apartments, and retail space. $10 million has been spent on infrastructure and safety improvements for both pedestrians and drivers.
Two Metro stations serve Riggs Park. In the southwest corner of the neighborhood is Fort Totten Station, where the Red, Yellow, and Green Lines intersect. Just north of Riggs Park is the Takoma station on the Red Line. There are Metrobus lines that run through the neighborhood as well. Blair Rd NW and New Hampshire Avenue NW provide thoroughfares into downtown DC. New Hampshire Ave also offers a route out to the Maryland suburbs and the Capital Beltway, just four miles away.
Riggs Park straddles the border of Northeast and Northwest DC. Its boundaries are Van Buren St NW to the north, Eastern Ave NE and Takoma Park & Chillum, Maryland, to the east, Galloway St NE and Fort Circle Parks to the south, and the Metro Red Line, Riggs Rd NE, North Capitol St NE, and Blair Rd NW to the west.
