More and more dining and tavern options are popping up in Park View, and some of the local favorites include Fish in the Neighborhood, Mothership, Looking Glass Lounge, and DC Reynolds. Georgia Ave NW, the center of commerce in Park View, is a designated Great Street, where local businesses can apply for grants to help improve their storefronts. Park View Recreation Center and Bruce Monroe Community Park offer residents recreational options and respite from city living. Wangari Gardens is a neighborhood community garden that requires those with a plot of land to spend at least two hours a month tending to it. Three hospitals are located just east of Park View, including MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Children’s Hospital National Medical Center, and the Washington DC VA Medical Center.
Park View, also known as Park Morton, is a Northwest DC neighborhood on the rise that offers a great location to its residents. New retail and residential space has sprung up in the last few years, and will continue to do so. The name of the area comes from the views east over the Old Soldier’s Home campus, which used to include a large public park modeled after New York City’s Central Park. Park View real estate consists mostly of old, historic Wardman townhouses.
The Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro station on the Green and Yellow Lines is located at the northern end of the neighborhood and the Columbia Heights stop on the same lines is a few blocks west of Park View. There are Metrobus lines that serve the area as well. I-395 begins two miles south of the neighborhood, and leads out to Virginia or to the Anacostia Freeway via I-695. Both Georgia Ave NW and New Hampshire/Sherman Ave NW provide direct routes into downtown DC or out to the Maryland suburbs. The Capital Beltway is less than six miles away via these roads.
Park View is situated within Northwest DC, and its boundaries are Rock Creek Church Rd NW to the north, Park Pl NW to the east, McMillan Reservoir, Gresham Pl NW, and Howard University to the south, and Sherman Ave NW and New Hampshire Ave NW to the west.
