NoMa Features & Amenities

In the last decade, more than 10 million square feet of residential, office, retail, and hotel space have been developed in NoMa. It has sprung up so much from its industrial roots that the local Metro station was renamed after the neighborhood. First St NE is the main commercial strip, complete with the District’s largest Harris Teeter grocery store. New restaurants have been popping up in the neighborhood in the last few years, including Todd Gray’s Watershed. The 8-mile Metropolitan Branch Trail for bikers and joggers starts in the neighborhood and runs all the way up to Silver Spring, Maryland. Organizations and companies that call NoMa home include the American Medical Association, Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Education, Kaiser Permanente, CNN, Sirius XM radio, and NPR.

NoMa Transit & Location

The neighborhood boasts two Metro Stations on the Red Line: NoMa-Gallaudet U and Union Station. Three more Metro stations are a short walk west, including Judiciary Square on the Red Line, Mount Vernon Square on the Green and Yellow Lines, and Gallery Pl-Chinatown where all three lines meet. Union Station is home to Amtrak, Maryland Area Regional Commuter (MARC) and Virginia Railway Express (VRE) trains, as well as Greyhound, Megabus, BoltBus, and Peter Pan bus lines. Several local bus lines run through the neighborhood, including the Georgetown-Union Station and Union Station-Navy Yard DC Circulator routes. The new DC Streetcars will debut in the area as well, linking Union Station with the Minnesota Ave Metro stop on the orange line via the H Street Corridor. Interstate 395 begins at the west end of NoMa, and leads out to Virginia or to the Anacostia Freeway via I-695.

NoMa straddles the border of Northwest and Northeast DC, and its rough borders are 2nd St NW, K St NW, and North Capitol St NW to the west, Q St NE, Harry Thomas Way NE, and Randolph Pl NE to the north, the Metro Red Line, Florida Ave NW, 4th St NE, M Street NE, and 3rd St NE to the east, and E St NE and Massachusetts Ave NE/NW to the south.
