The neighborhood was originally developed to house elected officials and other employees of the United States' fledgling government and though the neighborhood has become a home for people of all professions in the last 200 years, the trend continues. With an abundance of interns and staffers enjoying the quick commute, it comes as no surprise that nearly a third of Capitol Hill residents fall within the mid-twenties to mid-thirties age bracket. Similarly, though some local shops and boutiques call the Hill their home, options are limited in terms of retail. Leisurely walks through the stalls at Eastern Market reflect the relaxed attitude toward shopping.
