Separated from the busier tourist-prone neighborhoods by the Capitol at the eastern extreme of the National Mall, Capitol Hill maintains a village or small-town vibe. Though Capitol Hill is commercially well served by Pennsylvania Ave SE and 8th St SE, the neighborhood is otherwise almost totally residential. Furthermore, the neighborhood is home to some 200 public squares & parks, making it perfect for recreation.

Capitol Hill is regularly described as unpretentious and the description is apt. Though the neighborhood is home to many members of Washington's high society, there's much less of a 'see and be seen' culture.
