American University is actually located just south of the neighborhood, in Spring Valley, but AU’s Washington College of Law is in AU Park. Dining and shopping options are somewhat limited, but there are a few fantastic local spots in the Spring Valley Shopping Center. Wagshal's Market may be the best locally owned grocery store in all of Washington, DC, and Crate & Barrel, Tara Thai restaurant, and HomeMade Pizza Company all share the same center. Tenleytown and Friendship Heights are east and north of AU Park, respectively, and offer a great deal of retail options close by. Friendship Park and Recreation Center (also known as Turtle Park) is at the southern end of the neighborhood and the focal point of the community.
