High View Park Poperty Values
Today, the strong sense of community and organization hold a universal appeal and as such, they neighborhood has become incredibly ethnically diverse. This appeal has brought with greater numbers and varying tastes with regard to homes. High View Park's primary housing options included modest single-family homes and simple garden apartments, but the neighborhood is seeing a rise in the development of larger tear-downs and high rise apartments and condominiums. Members of the John M. Langston Citizens Association do not oppose this development, but hope that new residents will honor the area's longstanding commitment to community and neighborliness.
High View Park History
High View Park's history is intertwined with that of its neighbor Tara-Leeway Heights. After the Civil War, Basil Hall, sold his once remarkable land, known as Halls' Hill, to his former slaves for well below market value. The lower part of the hill, which still commanded amazing views of the surrounding area became known as High View Park. The historically black neighborhood, governed by the John M. Langston Citizens Association since 1924, has matured and remained incredibly cohesive in spite of segregation and other forms of adversity. Previously denied access to the Arlington County amenities enjoyed by white citizens, residents of High View Park worked together to provide whatever services they might need within their own community.
