Courthouse Features & Amenities
Also known as 'Court House,' the neighborhood of Courthouse is supported by the Clarendon-Courthouse Civic Association, joining forces with Clarendon, its neighbor to the west. As one might guess, Courthouse is the civic engine of Arlington. Those in the real estate market, however, should know that it has much more to offer than the daily legal proceedings and bureaucracy of the county. Rather, it is a place that one can work, play, and live. Courthouse has a bounty of places to eat, drink, and shop.
Some popular choices for good eats include Ray's the Steaks, Brooklyn Bagel, the cleverly named Earl's Sandwiches, and Boccato for gelato. The Arlington Farmers' Market pops up every Saturday morning and during the week, grocery needs can be met at the Whole Foods Market on Wilson Blvd. Residents can enjoy the convenience of the neighborhood's AMC movie theater without having to cross the river.
Courthouse Property Values
Once called Courtlands, Courthouse was one of the earliest developments in the city, and when the land was put up for sale to the public, new residents flocked to the area, scooping up plots for $100; payable interest-free at a dollar a week.
Typical of Washington DC bedroom communities, early housing options consisted mainly of tasteful single-family homes, including farmhouses, bungalows, and foursquares. There are also a number of infill duplexes and townhouse communities. Since the late 1970's when the neighborhood's Metrorail station was completed, Courthouse has seen a significant population increase, leading to the development of many high-rises, including apartment complexes and condominiums.
Courthouse Transit & Location
Courthouse is aptly serviced by the Courthouse Metro Station on the Orange and Silver Lines. Arlington Blvd (Route 50) connects to I-66 to the north, providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.
Courthouse is bounded by Wilson Blvd to the northwest, 10th St to the south, and Courthouse Rd to the east.
