Clarendon Features & Amenities
Supported with its sister community by the Clarendon-Courthouse Civic Association, Clarendon is a delightful neighborhood. It has served as Arlington's commercial backbone since the rest of the county was farmland. Clarendon features the conveniences of life in DC, but at the suburban pace that has made it such a popular place to live.
Clarendon is home to a number of unique businesses such as ShoeFly, The Papery, and Ispirato: an art gallery come home decor boutique. They have persisted successfully alongside the popular chain stores that can be found at The Market Common, Clarendon. Nearby eateries include Faccia Luna: an urban pizzeria, and the cleverly named Earl's Sandwiches. For food, drink, and entertainment, Whitlow's on Wilson and Iota Club & Cafe serve all three.
Clarendon is home to a Whole Foods Market, a Trader Joe's, and on Wednesdays residents can find fresh treats at the Clarendon Farmers' Market. Clarendon Day is held every autumn, providing good food and good fun for residents and visitors alike.
Clarendon Property Values
Clarendon was one of the earliest developments in the county, and when the land was put up for sale to the public, new residents flocked to the area, scooping up plots for $100; payable interest-free at a dollar a week.
Typical of Washington DC bedroom communities, early housing options consisted mainly of tasteful single-family homes, including farmhouses, bungalows, and foursquares. There are also a number of infill duplexes and townhouse communities. Since the late 1970's when the neighborhood's Metrorail stations were completed, Clarendon-Courthouse has seen a significant population increase, leading to the development of many high-rises, including apartment complexes and condominiums.
Clarendon Transit & Location
Clarendon is aptly serviced by the Clarendon Metro Station on the Orange and Silver Lines. Arlington Blvd (Route 50) connects to I-66 to the north, providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.
Clarendon is bounded by Wilson Blvd to the northwest, 10th St to the south, and Courthouse Rd to the east.
