Cherrydale Properties & Features

Popular housing styles in Cherrydale include Colonial Revivals, bungalows, Minimal Traditionals, Queen Annes, and ranch houses, but the neighborhood also has a wide selection of multi-family dwellings including apartment and condominium high rises and one townhouse complex.

Cherry Valley Nature Area, also known as Cherry Valley Park, includes seven acres of green space, two ponds, several paths, and access to Custis Trail.

Cherrydale Origins

Cherrydale takes its name from the cherry orchards that were planted by Dorsey Donaldson and his son-in-law, Robert Shreve. In 1893, when Donaldson petitioned to have a post office built in the area, he referred to the land as Cherrydale. This was convenient timing as railways were just being introduced to Arlington County, encouraging the influx of new residents and DC vacationers. The area developed slowly over the next fifty years, as individual tracts of land were purchased, subdivided, sold, and developed.

Cherrydale Transit & Location

Cherrydale has no Metro Station, but parts of the neighborhood are within walking or biking distance of the Clarendon Metro. Old Dominion Dr (US-29) and Custis Memorial Pkwy (I-66) provide quick and easy access to Washington DC.

Cherrydale is bounded by Lorcom Ln to the north, I-66 to the east and south, and N Utah St to the west.
