East Falls Church Property Values
In East Falls Church there are still a number of stately frame houses from the 19th and early 20th century, but the majority of standing single-family homes are brick Cape Cods built between the 1930's and 1950's. It comes as no surprise that since the completion of the East Falls Church Metro Station, a number of high rise apartment buildings and condominiums have sprouted.
In the 19th century, the construction of train lines encouraged District residents to visit small communities such as East Falls Church and likewise, gave rural residents easier, faster access to the city. In 1897, however, the completion of the Washington, Arlington & Falls Church electric streetcar, turned East Falls Church into a true DC bedroom community. By the 1980's, much of the East Falls Church business district was leveled to make way for Interstate 66. Since then, business has recovered and there are plans in the works for future development of mixed-use spaces.
East Falls Church History
Arlington-East Falls Church, also known simply as East Falls Church was originally part Falls Church: an independent village in Northern Virginia. The eastern portion of this village was ceded to the federal government to complete the original diamond of Washington DC. While it was retroceded to Virginia and Falls Church in 1846 with the rest of what is now Arlington County, that initial division clearly created a sense of community identity. Despite municipal protests, East Falls Church broke away and, thanks to a 1936 Virginia Supreme Court ruling, was incorporated into Arlington.
