The Wharf Update

We’ve been watching The Wharf project here at Capital Park Realty for some time now. Check out this blog, and this one, from back when the project first broke ground more than two years ago. The $2 billion, 27-acre construction project down on the Southwest Waterfront currently looks like a big hole in the ground along the Washington Channel, but Phase I is still on pace to be completed in the fall of 2017. If you head down there, you will see more than a dozen cranes at work in the area. The first residential building, which is technically not part of The Wharf but located at the south end of it, is 525 Water, which is scheduled to open in 2016. VIO will be the first official Wharf residential building and will open in 2017. There seem to be updates almost monthly as to what will be added to The Wharf. Recently it was announced that a 413-room hotel jointly managed by Hyatt and Hilton will be included in the area. This will join the already planned InterContinental Hotel. There will be a 2,500 space parking garage underneath The Wharf and a 3,500 seat music hall is in the works. Four piers jutting into the Washington Channel will highlight the project, one of which will be home to the 98-slip Capital Yacht Club. More than 35 yet-to-be-determined restaurants are planned for the neighborhood, which will be a part of 300,000 square feet of retail that will include a multitude of shopping options. The 200 year-old Maine Ave. Fish Market will be restored, helping to ensure its enjoyment for generations to come. If you want to work or house your business in The Wharf, there is going to be nearly 1 million square feet of office space for lease.
