Rosslyn Property Values
While the neighborhood has a sprinkling of single-family dwellings and townhomes, the primary housing options in Rosslyn include high rise condominiums and apartment buildings. In the 1960's many businesses relocated just outside of the District and found Rosslyn provided everything they needed. Since that shift and given the proximity to National Airport, the high rise vibe has proved most convenient, though the North Rosslyn Civic Association is looking to make the area friendlier to families and others who call the area home.
Rosslyn Past & Present
Rosslyn is on of Arlington's more historically fascinating neighborhoods. In the 19th century, Rosslyn was the site of Fort Corcoran: one of Arlington's 33 forts protecting the District of Columbia. In this case, it protected specifically the Aqueduct Bridge (now Francis Scott Key Bridge). Following the Civil War, Rosslyn became infamous for its brothels, saloons, gambling houses, and general crime rate. During that time, Virginia farmers passing through the area on market days traveled in armed convoys to protect and maintain possession of their goods on the way to DC and their profits on the way home.
Much has changed since. At the turn of the 20th century, crusades were led to clean up the Arlington riverfront, with special emphasis on Rosslyn. One notable contributor to these efforts was Frank Lyon, the newspaperman and real estate developer who used the influence of his Alexandria Monitor to educate Arlingtonians and gather support for the cause. Lyon soon thereafter benefited from the change as he was able to develop Lyon Park and Lyon Village.
Rosslyn Transit & Location
Rosslyn is easily accessible by the Rosslyn Metro Station on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines. The neighborhood is blessed with very few traffic lights and Lee Hwy provides a quick route to Key Bridge and Roosevelt Bridge.
Rosslyn is bounded by Custis Memorial Pkwy to the north and east, Arlington Blvd to the south, and N Quinn St to the west.
