Kingman Park Features & Amenities
There are not a great deal of commercial choices in this residential neighborhood, but there is the popular Langston Bar and Grille, an upscale soul food restaurant on Benning Rd NE. H Street Corridor and Capitol Hill are nearby and provide a lot more options. Rosedale Recreation Center provides an area for the neighborhood’s youth and the Anacostia Park offers a playground and trails.
The neighborhood has had a very strong civic presence throughout its history, which has included successfully fighting a Metro station, highway extension, theme park, and new football stadium from being built in Kingman Park. RFK Stadium, the home of the DC United soccer team, stands at the southeastern corner of the area. However, there are tentative plans to tear it down and build the club a new stadium at Buzzards Point, which could mean some changes for the area.
Kingman Park History & Housing
Kingman Park is a Northeast DC neighborhood that has a lot of potential with its proximity to the H Street Corridor and Capitol Hill. Also known as Rosedale, the neighborhood is named after Brigadier General Dan Christie Kingman, who was the head of the Army Corps of Engineers. Kingman Park was founded in 1928 and its real estate consists mostly of two-story brick row homes.
Kingman Park Transportation & Location
Kingman Park does not have a Metro station of its own, but the Stadium-Armory stop on the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines is just a few blocks south of the neighborhood. Several Metrobus lines run through the neighborhood, and there is a free shuttle that runs along Benning Rd NE nightly after 5pm between the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro stop on the Green and Yellow Lines and the Minnesota Ave stop on the Orange Line. The new DC Streetcars run along Benning Rd NE as well, linking Union Station with Minnesota Ave Station. For those wishing to drive, Benning Rd NE provides a direct route west to downtown DC and east to the Anacostia Freeway (DC Route 295). I-695 is close by to the southwest, and provides access to I-395 and Virginia.
Kingman Park is situated within Northeast DC, and its boundaries are Benning Rd NE to the north, Anacostia Park to the east, East Capitol St NE to the south, and 14th St NE, F St NE, and 15th St NE to the west.
