Buchanan Park, a community now under development located at 13th and D Streets SE, has become a neighborhood within a neighborhood, with plenty of landscaped green space, lots of lovely outdoor gathering areas and walkways to connect the community. There are two developments taking place on this site, The Buchanan School and The Buchanan Townhomes.
The Buchanan School, built in 1895, stands in the center. The school was home to elementary-aged children until it closed its doors in 1993. The developer for The Buchanan School is Ditto Residential and includes 41 single-level condos. Much of the original school’s architecture is still there, like wide stairways and high ceilings with exposed brick and gorgeous arched windows.
