In addition to the redevelopment of the West Heating Plant, more new condo projects are coming to Georgetown.  Some of the new developments are planned and others are already under construction. The West Heating Plant will have the most new condos with 80 units, while others will have only eight residences.

Adams Mason House is coming to 1072 Thomas Jefferson Street in Northwest DC. The condo project is in the planning stages at this point with a delivery date of late 2013. The Adams Mason House will contain 10 new condos, plus 3,500 square feet of retail or office space. The residences will be one or two-bedroom units, with the potential for three-bedroom condos.

6th Street and Maine Avenue condos are among the dozens of new condo projects going up around Washington D.C. – you’ve seen the cranes.

6th Street and Maine Avenue condos are nestled right along the Anacostia River in Southwest Washington D.C and very close to the Southwest Waterfront Metro. This four-story building will include 109 units when completed, which is expected to be in 2015. The 6th Street and Maine Avenue development, which does not have a website yet, will have a green roof and many condos with private terraces that look out onto the waterfront.

New condos in Georgetown will be built on the site of the World War II-era West Heating Plant at 29th and K Streets in Northwest DC. The site is adjacent to the Four Seasons Hotel, Rock Creek, and the C&O Canal. The plans call for about 80 high-end condominium units -- Four Seasons Private Residences.

The plant is a 93,000-square-foot building with eight floors, six above ground and two below, and sits on more than two acres of land.  The former General Services Administration (GSA) plant previously served as a heating source for government facilities, but was decommissioned in 2000 and vacated in 2012.

Schools in Foggy Bottom community in Northwest D.C. include schools George Washington University and nearby Georgetown University and several elementary schools in walking distance.

By far, George Washington University assumes the dominant position among schools in Foggy Bottom, with the campus consuming several square blocks south of K Street between roughly 24th Street and 20th Street. The renowned Georgetown University is in walking distance in adjacent Georgetown. The Schools Without Walls Home School Association is also based in Foggy Bottom.

Earlier this year, Chancellor Kaya Henderson announced the closure of DC public schools due to budget pressure and low enrollment. The final list includes 15 schools, which is more than one in 10 public schools in the District. 

The elementary schools that will be closed for the next school year are Marshall Elementary School (Ward 5), Davis Elementary School (Ward 7), Kenilworth Elementary School (Ward 7), Ferebee-Hope Elementary School (Ward 8), and MC Terrell Elementary School (Ward 8). One school currently serving students through Grade 8, Winston Education Campus (Ward 7), is also slated to close. There are a few dog parks in the Adams Morgan area of DC. The Walter Pierce Dog Park is located at 20th Street and Calvert Street, NW. This dog park was the District’s first official fenced dog exercise area. Just down the road at 2501 Calvert Street in Northwest, you will find an unofficial dog park without a fence. There is also another official dog park in the southern area of Adams Morgan -- S Street Dog Park at 17th Street and New Hampshire Avenue in Northwest.
