Congress Heights Property Values
In 1887 ground was broken for the construction of the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge (now the Sousa Bridge) and one man in particular foresaw the rapid development that would come to the remainder of Southeast DC. In 1890, the subdivision of Congress Heights was founded and to protect his investment he poured funding and manpower into the Belt Railway streetcar, paying for tracks to be laid heading toward Congress Heights. It is due to the expansive and successful development of Congress Heights and several other developments cooked up by Colonel Randle that the District government approved the extension of South Capitol Street across the Anacostia.
Congress Heights housing options are widely varied, but harmonize well with each other on beautifully laid out streets that respond to the area’s natural topography. The eclectic mix includes Colonials, Cape Cods, ramblers, Victorians, frame and brick townhouses, duplexes, and garden apartments.
