Buena Vista Features & Amenities
Buena Vista is a hilly neighborhood in which street layout follows the natural topography. The hills provide good views, or 'buena vistas' of downtown Washington DC and other nearby areas. While the neighborhood is almost exclusively residential, it has the advantage of close proximity to the Anacostia Historic District, which contains the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, as well as a theater, a museum, an arts center, and numerous new shops and restaurants. For recreation, Buena Vista residents find themselves conveniently close to Anacostia Park along the river and just to the south, the Barry Farm Recreation and Aquatics Center.
Families are well served by the neighborhood as it contains the Douglass Campus of Kipp DC as well as Thurgood Marshall Academy, both of which are excellent, well-ranked public charter schools.
Buena Vista Housing Styles
Housing options in Buena Vista consist primarily of garden apartments and rowhouses. Many rowhouse developments include stand-alone pairings that provide for more lawn space between residences. Bungalows, Colonials, and other single-family frame houses make appearances throughout the neighborhood.
