Twining Property Information

Housing options vary throughout the small, triangular neighborhood of Twining and include primarily brick ramblers and garden apartments with a fair sprinkling of frame Colonials and bungalows. It is clear that a strong sense of community pervades, creating a beautiful flow from one house to the next.

Twining Past & Present

Twining most likely took its name from Twining City, a development that was planned in the late 1800's, but never executed. That forgotten neighborhood, originally proposed on the other side of Pennsylvania Ave, was named for Major William Johnson Twining, who had served as Military Commissioner of DC around the same time. The neighborhood now recognized as Twining is a quiet, residential one that enjoys the presence of Pope Branch and the close proximity of Fort Dupont Park.

Twining Transit & Location

Twining has no Metro Station, however, the Anacostia Metro Station on the Green line is located nearby in the Buena Vista neighborhood. Pennsylvania Ave SE provides easy access across the river into the heart of Capitol Hill or all the way to the White House.

Twining is bounded by Branch Ave SE to the east, Pennsylvania Ave SE to the south, and Minnesota Ave SE to the north and west.
