Naylor Gardens History & Housing

The neighborhood of Naylor Gardens takes its name from a very special apartment complex within its bounds. In the early 1940's, the Defense Housing Corporation set to work to complete a large scale complex to accommodate the influx of defense workers to the DC Metro area. A true product of the era, Naylor Gardens Apartments boast incredibly sturdy construction, high ceilings, and gorgeous landscaping which is still maintained to this day.

Naylor Gardens Apartments are now available for sale or for rent, and the immaculate condition in which they remain is owed to an owner-based cooperative. While the apartments cover the west side of the neighborhood, the east side of Naylor Gardens is dominated by single-family dwellings including foursquares, center-hall Colonials, bungalows, ramblers and more. In the precise middle of the neighborhood stand Winston Education Campus and Hillcrest Recreation Center.
