Good Hope Origins
The town of Good Hope, DC was originally established in 1820, surrounding the site of a tavern. Though it also grew to host a post office and a few homes, it failed to come into its own for a long time. Like so much of Washington DC and the surrounding area, Good Hope saw dramatic changes in the late 1930's and 1940's. There was a massive population spike due to the influx of New Deal workers, Defense workers, and their families, and real estate developers were quick to respond. With the exception of a strip of woodland that runs along Good Hope's northern boundary, no lots have been left undeveloped.
Good Hope Transportation & Location
Good Hope has no Metro Station, however, Anacostia Metro Station on the Green Line is located nearby in the Buena Vista neighborhood. Branch Ave SE connects to Pennsylvania Ave SE which provides quick and easy access to downtown DC as well as Northern Maryland.
Good Hope is bounded by Park Dr SE to the north, 36th Pl SE to the east, Alabama Ave SE to the south and Naylor Rd SE to the west.
