Anacostia Features & Amenities

Among other points of interest, Anacostia is home to the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site which contains Douglass' estate, Cedar Hill. Anacostia takes its name from the Anacostia River, which was named by the Nacotchtank Indians that originally inhabited the area. In the first half of the 20th Centruy, the community was known as Uniontown and served as a suburb that housed primarily workers in nearby military sites and factories. By the end of the 1960's the area had fallen into decline and despite its rich character, was not seen as an inviting place to live. Now it has been targeted by investors of all sorts and the neighborhood is on the rise in a very big way.

Anacostia Transit & Location

Anacostia has no Metro Station, however, the Anacostia Metro Station on the Green Line is located nearby in the Buena Vista neighborhood.

Anacostia is bounded by Good Hope Rd SE to the north, Morris Rd SE to the south, and Anacostia Fwy to the west, and the eastern border is located between Avalon Playground and Good Hope Ct.
