Westover Property Values

The neighborhood began as two housing developments: Westover Apartments, a large garden apartment complex of over 2,000 units and Westover Hills, a federally backed development of over 500 single-family homes. Because materials were purchased en mass and the entire subdivision was platted at once, rather than over time, housing costs were kept to a minimum. The only setback was a costlier reversion to wood framing, as the then-popular steel was needed overseas. Two models of brick Colonial were used during initial development and they are still the predominant housing style in the neighborhood. Westover is also home to garden apartments, townhouses, and the occasional duplex.

Westover Origins

Westover, also known as Westover Village, is a perfect example of the housing demands put on the DC Metro area during the Great Depression as well as World War II. While construction of homes came to a standstill in many parts of the country, the population of Wahington DC and the surrounding area spiked drastically due to the New Deal and the creation of countless federal jobs as well as World War II and the opening of The Pentagon, which led to an influx of defense workers and their families.

Westover Transit & Location

Westover has no Metro Station, but it is nearest to the East Falls Church Metro on the Orange and Silver Lines which is accessible via N Glebe Rd (VA-120). N Glebe Rd, providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.

Westover is bounded by 18th St N to the north, N Jefferson St to the east, Custis Memorial Pkwy to the south, and N McKinley Rd to the west.
