Waverly Hills Property Values

By and large, Waverly Hills is comprised of multi-family dwellings. With a few apartment and condominium high rises, five townhouse developments, and a slew of low rise and garden apartment complexes, Waverly Hills' housing stock promotes one of the more economically diverse neighborhoods in the county. Single-family homes make up roughly a third of Waverly Hills households and dominant styles include Tudor, craftsman, bungalow, Colonial Revival, and Cape Cod.

Waverly Hills History & Development

Colonial Virginia law required that each parish of the Church of England be coupled with a glebe: a plantation or farm from which the rector would draw an income. The Fairfax Parish glebe included 517 acres and what is now known as The Glebe House. The Glebe House still stands in present day Waverly Hills and has been the greatest catalyst for the maintenance and development of the surrounding area. The land and house changed hands over the years to several noteworthy Arlington families until finally the land had to be subdivided in order to save the house.

The introduction of steam and electric railways throughout Arlington County at the turn of the 20th century attracted new residents as well as real estate developers and by the 1920's and 1930's the development of Waverly Hills was in full swing. Development slowed during World War II, but took off again following V-J Day to meet the demands of what would be a population boom like no other. The current landscape of Waverly Hills is nearly identical to that of the early 1950's.
