Donaldson Run Property Values

Immediately following World War II, and in the face of the impending baby boom, construction in Donaldson Run took off. The majority of the houses built at that time were designed by Broyhill & Sons. While they offered multiple styles and designs, the most common by far was the three-bedroom ranch house.

Luckily, a good deal of Donaldson Run's natural beauty has been maintained in residential areas as well as local parks. The neighborhood is home to Lee Heights Park, Zachary Taylor Park, and Donaldson Run Nature Area, and is adjacent to Potomac Overlook Regional Park.

Donaldson Run Origins

Donaldson Run is named for the stream of the same name that runs directly through the neighborhood. It in turn was named for the Donaldsons, a farming family that lived in the area in the 18th century. Like much of Northern Arlington County, Donaldson Run remained primarily rural until the 20th century and because of its proximity to militarily advantageous landmarks, such as Minor Hill in Williamsburg, it was occupied by Union troops and the natural landscape was torn apart. As residents strove to recover and rebuild, they were finally rewarded for their patience by the introduction of electric railways.

Trolley service brought in a fair number of affluent Washingtonians, many of whom built summer homes and contributed to the local economy. Concurrently, it also allowed Arlingtonians to earn DC wages, while living a county lifestyle. Development of Donaldson Run was slated to begin in the early 1930's, but progress was severely stymied by the Depression and World War II. The New Deal and The Pentagon were not as beneficial to this neighborhood as to so many others.

Donaldson Run Transportation & Location

Donaldson Run has no Metro Station, but it is nearest to the Ballston-MU Metro on the Orange and Silver lines, which is accessible via the N Glebe Rd (VA-120), providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.

Donaldson Run is bounded by Military Rd to the north, N Randolph St to the east, Old Dominion Dr to the south, and N Glebe Rd to the west.
