Crystal City Property Values

Crystal City is named for one of the early apartment buildings in the neighborhood: The Crystal House, which boasted a large crystal chandelier in its lobby. Given the narrow layout of Crystal City and the previous uses of the land, it comes as no surprise that the dominant housing options in the community are high rise condominiums and apartments.

Crystal City Past & Present

Until the 1960's, present day Crystal City was nobody's home. It was the site of brickyards, junkyards, factories, and motels. The area's renaissance was sparked by a mounting demand for office space outside of DC. After plenty of careful planning, the area received a complete overhaul and saw the construction of numerous office buildings, apartments and condominiums, hotels which were a no-brainer given their proximity to National Airport, and a long line of retail possibilities up and down Jefferson Davis Hwy. In 1977, the Crystal City Metro opened, making it all an easy trip. On November 13, 2018, Amazon announced that Crystal City, VA and Long Island City, NY will be the locations of Amazon's second headquarters. Amazon HQ2 expects to create 50,000 high paying jobs and invest in over $5 billion which in turn will generate tens of billions of dollars in additional investment for the community. Developer JBG Smith - the largest landowner in the area - is planning additional metro entrances to Crystal City and Potomac Yard, improvements to Route 1, a pedestrian bridge to Reagan National Airport, and a shopping hub to include retail, cinema, grocers, restaurants, bars and more.

Crystal City Transportation & Location

Crystal City is serviced by the Crystal City Metro on the Blue and Yellow lines. The neighborhood is cut down the middle by Jefferson Davis Hwy (Route 1) which provides quick, easy access to Alexandria and to I-395 and Washington DC.

Crystal City is bounded by Army Navy Dr to the north, S Eads St to the west, Four Mile Run to the south, and George Washington Memorial Pkwy to the east.
