Colonial Village History & Housing
Colonial Village, built between 1935 and 1940, was developed originally by the Federal Housing Administration. With Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal initiative in full swing, hoards of new residents with new federal jobs were flooding DC and the surrounding area. In an effort to accommodate these workers, the government stepped in and built many such developments. Several of Arlington County's neighborhoods were first developed in this way, featuring primarily single-family homes.
Colonial Village is comprised of large Colonial Revival style garden apartment buildings. While originally built for rental purposes, they have since been converted to condominiums.
Colonial Village Transportation & Location
Colonial Village is serviced by the Courthouse Metro Station on the Orange and Silver Lines. Arlington Blvd (Route 50) connects to I-66 to the north, providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.
Colonial Village is bounded by Lee Hwy to the north, N Quinn St to the east, Wilson Blvd to the south, and N Veitch St to the west.
