College Park Features & Amenities

For recreation, College Park is home to Paint Branch Stream Park and all of the various on-campus sports facilities, and for retail, the northern end of town hosts Best Buy, Home Depot, and IKEA College Park.

College Park Property Values

College Park has thrived both as a streetcar suburb of Washington DC, as well as a college town, serving what is now the flagship campus of The University of Maryland. Because the town is comprised of so many well established neighborhoods, it is no surprise that housing options vary greatly. Few styles common to the DC Metro area go unrepresented. Among the most popular are Colonials, bungalows, Foursquares, ramblers, and Queen Annes. College Park is also home to numerous condominiums and apartment complexes which support the ever transitioning student body of UMD.

College Park History

College Park, though not incorporated as a town until 1945, is comprised of several neighborhoods that had been inhabited and developed for some time: College Park, Lakeland, Berwyn, Oak Spring, Branchville, Daniel's Park, and Hollywood. College Park, from which the town took its name, is an area of fascinating history. In 1856 the Maryland Agricultural College was founded there and afterward the nearby stop on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was known as College Station. The agricultural college was founded by Charles Benedict Calvert with the support of several other nearby planters whom he rallied in the name of experimentation and prosperity for Maryland farmers.

In keeping with the community's tradition of experimentation and scientific progress, Wilbur and Orville Wright established the College Park Airfield in 1909, where they and other aviators continued to make advances in flight and where several firsts took place, including the first airmail and the first controlled helicopter flight.

College Park Transportation & Location

College Park residents can access the District of Columbia via Greenbelt Metro Station as well as the nearby Prince George's Plaza Station on the Green and Yellow Lines as well as multiple bus lines. Greenbelt Station also connects to the MARC (Maryland Area Regional Commuter).

College Park is bounded by Adelphi Rd to the west, I-495 to the north, Kenilworth Ave (MD-201) to the east, and Albion Rd to the south.
