Wharf Grand Opening

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes-Norton, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6), Amer Hammour chairman of capital guidance company Madison Marquette and ANC D.C. Chairman Andy Litsky spoke at a celebration honoring the opening of Phase I of the Wharf neighborhood redevelopment.

The community that was at one point a military hub and later a fish market is now an ever-changing mile-long stretch along the Potomac River with restaurants and retail, residences and businesses and more.

D.C. Deputy Mayor Brian Kenner, who also spoke at the event, talked about what a milestone the day was. He himself lived in the neighborhood 20 years ago and mentioned how exciting it was that the redevelopment’s residences will contain 20 percent affordable housing.

Mayor Bowser spoke about how The Wharf has managed to bring over 1,000 new construction jobs as it continues to develop.

“The Wharf is a transformative project,” said Hammour. “It is a place to live, work and shop. I am pleased with how D.C. is embracing design and infrastructure.”

Interested in trying out all the newest food? The Spanish Del Mar de Fabio Trabocchi by Chef Fabio and Maria Trabocchi will pay homage to Maria’s Spanish heritage. There will also be a brand-new Italian restaurant by Nicholas Stefanelli called Officina, coming in the spring of 2018. There are also plans for plenty of fast-casual dining like Shake Shack and Taylor Gourmet.

More and more boutiques are also moving into the neighborhood, like a large Politics and Prose bookstore and a Yoga Factory.

For music lovers, there is a bar and tavern called Pearl Street Warehouse by the team behind Cantina Marina. The Anthem is another music venue, an industrial style behemoth that has already hosted the Foo Fighters and many musical acts to come. More on who’s heading to The Anthem.

If you want to live at the Wharf, the first condo community to open was 525 Water, five stories of residences with unique floor plans. Another condo community is VIO, luxurious waterfront residences. The Channel and Incanto are apartment residences that are ready for residents to move in today.
