Being on the lookout for the ideal home in the best community for you has a lot to do with walkability. Grocery stores are one of what’s called “anchor retail” shopping amenities that make for a thriving, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood. There’s a brand-new Safeway on Georgia Ave. that was completely remodeled. Previously nicknamed the “Stinky Safeway” back in 2011, the new store is anything but. Many see the store as the rebirth of the neighborhood, as we previously mentioned grocery stores (especially new ones) make a neighborhood flourish.

In addition to the Safeway there’s a new Avenue Market,…

The buildings, now known as the Montage, were formerly a single-family home and an office building, respectively. The homes, which are very close to the Georgia Ave./Petworth Metro stop, were sold so quickly they are currently 75 percent full. The units are priced around $600,000.

It was announced in November 2016 that the Rock Creek Baptist Church at 8th and Upshur Sts. would move to Maryland and be demolished. In its place will be brand-new condominiums. Once…

It’s a better investment than renting:  The average rent per one bedroom is $1,850 in a neighborhood like Adams Morgan. The average sales price in that neighborhood is $578,774.00  With a 4% interest rate on a conventional loan and putting 20% down, the monthly mortgage payment is $2,210.41. The year-over-year increase in sales price is 20% in that neighborhood! If sales continue on that trend the same home could be sold for $694,528.80 next year.

Parking comes at a premium in several Northwest DC neighborhoods, but that’s not necessarily the case in Petworth. Many row homes come with their their own parking behind the property or resident-only street parking. Petworth is currently going through a renaissance, with many of the nearly century-old homes being renovated and buyers snatching up properties left and right. It is often much more affordable than other Northwest DC neighborhoods to the south. Georgia Avenue NW is the center of commercial activity, with several restaurants and bars, including popular spots Chez Billy, Petworth Citizen, and Domku. The Petworth Farmers Market is a big hit with area residents, and is open every Saturday from May to October. Two parks offer recreational options…

16th Street Heights is one neighborhood in Northwest DC that provides a great amount of space inside and out for a reasonable price. If you’re interested in a three-level row home in that neighborhood, there are plenty of options. Most of the row homes in 16th Street Heights lie in the southern end of the neighborhood and feature large lot sizes. Additionally, the majority of three-level homes include a basement as a third level, with the opportunity to use it as storage space or rent it out to help lower the cost of a mortgage. 16th Street Heights is mostly just a residential neighborhood, but there are retail options on 14th Street NW and Georgia Avenue NW. Mount Pleasant, Columbia Heights, and Petworth are all bordering neighborhoods and offer much more…
