Summer in Capitol Riverfront / Navy Yard


Outdoor fitness, kid-friendly entertainment and baseball are just some of the summer activities in DC’s Capitol Riverfront / Navy Yard.

The Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard area, affectionately known as Yards Park, is brimming with activity. If you’re looking to get fit this summer, try any of their outdoor fitness classes like morning yoga with Vida Fitness, Zumba with Balance Gym and even Jazzercise.

Sunday mornings include the Freshfarm Capitol Riverfront Farmer’s Market, which goes until 2 p.m. each week. Stop by for some of the best fresh produce and flowers out there.

Later in August, take the kids to “Kids in Canal,” a kid-friendly entertainment morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. August 2nd hosts the Rainbow Rock Band. There’s even an outdoor movie series for all you cinema enthusiasts out there. The movies begin at sundown at Canal Park. On Thursday August 3rd, La La Land will screen.

If you’re up for a big adventure, there’s even a trapeze school at the riverfront for you to try. The Trapeze School offers classes and unique party ideas this summer.

Ice cream is a must during the summer and Ice Cream Jubilee is a great place to try. Their gourmet flavors menu is perfect for D.C. foodies. Some of their latest flavors include banana bourbon caramel, basil goat cheese and coffee and doughnuts.

Of course, one of the most fun things to do in the summer at the Riverfront is take in a Nats game. Nationals Park is located in the same neighborhood as the Capitol Riverfront, so be sure to spend at least part of your summer taking in a game (and all the delicious food) at the state-of-the-art ballpark.
