Summer happenings (festivals, concerts, events, etc.) in Petworth.

Petworth is a vibrant, diverse community and something always seems to be happening in the neighborhood—festivals, concerts and more. Don’t miss the Petworth Park Summer Jam happening at the Petworth Recreation Center. The music festival, brought to you by Chris Burns, ROAM and supported by the Petworth Jazz Project will last until August.

Browse for local items at the Petworth Community Market with local artists, musicians and other vendors. The market runs Saturdays through November from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located at the corner of 9th and Upshur Sts. NW, the market is quite popular in the summer months.

If you’re a movie buff, the Georgetown Business Improvement District will be holding their annual Sunset Cinema Summer Outdoor Movie Series. The schedule’s theme is all about celebrating women and women in the movies. Check out the lineup.

Anchor retail makes Petworth a walkable community.

Being on the lookout for the ideal home in the best community for you has a lot to do with walkability. Chevy Chase, D.C. home sale trends show a decrease of $7,500  in the past year (about -1 percent). The average price per square foot of the homes actually rose $50, to a total of $557.

One bedroom homes cost potential homeowners around $257,500. Mid-size two and three bedroom homes experience a decent jump, from the $300,000s to the low $900,000s. The median sales price for homes in the 16th St. Heights neighborhood increased by 10.6 percent from summer 2015 to summer 2016. The average listing price in the community has increased as of August 2016.

16th St. Heights has been a mecca for young families, as The Washington Post has reported. The community is within walking distance to 14th and 16th street retail and development, and Rock Creek Park is completely walkable as well. The types of homes sold in the neighborhood are mostly brick rowhouses and larger Tudors or Colonials. Deals on homes in the community can run as low as $170,000 or into the millions.
