Arlington Mill Housing & History

Originally called Columbia Heights West, the CHW Civic Association decided in 2015 that the neighborhood should be renamed in order to avoid confusion with its similarly-named counterparts: Columbia Heights of Arlington and Columbia Heights of DC. While the name has changed, the spirit of the community and obviously its history remain the same.

The land that eventually became CHW and now Arlington Mill was acquired by the mid-18th century. Roughly half of the homes that now comprise Arlington Mill were completed between 1947 and 1950 and very few houses have sprouted up since 1965. As a neighborhood that developed after World War II, Arlington Mill was no stranger to multi-family dwellings. A good number of apartment buildings and complexes were constructed in the neighborhood's early days and in the 1970's, several of them were converted to condominiums and cooperatives. As a result of this openness, Arlington Mill is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Arlington.

Arlington Mill Transportation & Location

Arlington Mill has no Metro station, but its southern border is Columbia Pike (VA-244) which connects to I-395 and I-66, which provide easy access to DC to the northeast and Alexandria to the south.

Arlington Mill is bounded by 7th Rd S to the north, Four Mile Run to the east, Columbia Pike to the south, and S Carlin Springs Rd to the west.
