Old Dominion Property Values

The earliest houses that remain in Old Dominion are large farmhouses and Queen Annes. The neighborhood is distinguished by its strong collection of catalog homes including several Sears, Roebuck & Co. homes and at least one Montgomery Ward. The neighborhood's last Lustron home was dismantled in 1997. By far the most popular housing styles are brick Colonial Revivals and Cape Cods built in the 1940's and 1950's. For those requiring more space, there are a number of larger tear-downs within the neighborhood, but Old Dominion has remained a largely single-family home community.

Old Dominion History

Previously known as Livingstone Heights, Old Dominion, like its Northern Arlington neighbors, maintained an agrarian landscape until the turn of the 20th century. The introduction of the Great Falls & Old Dominion steam railroad, which ran between Rosslyn and Great Falls, attracted wealthy city dwellers to build or purchase summer homes. The area was advertised as "the highest land around Washington" and boasted 465 feet above DC to Cleveland Park's mere 400. Every possible quality of the landscape was exploited in brochures attracting the "cultured and refined people" of the District.

Old Dominion Transportation & Location

Old Dominion has no Metro Station, but it is nearest to the Ballston-MU Metro on the Orange and Silver lines, which is accessible via the N Glebe Rd (VA-120), providing access to the District of Columbia; and to I-395 to the south, toward Alexandria.

Old Dominion is bounded to the north by bike trail in between 25th St N and 26th St N, tN Vernon St to the east, Old Dominion Dr to the south, and N Columbus St to the west.
