The District Apartments

The District is a new residential development at 14th and S Streets in Northwest Washington, DC. The location is on the border of the Logan Circle, Dupont Circle, and U Street Corridor neighborhoods, just three blocks from the U Street Metro station. It is also the site of the former Whitman-Walker Clinic, a historic building that will be integrated into the project.

The original project was called District Condos with a plan to sell condominium units. But in November 2011, the developer opted to create boutique rental apartments instead, and change the project name to the District.

The District is a seven-story mixed-use building with a glass and brick facade by The JBG Companies and Grosvenor. The ground floor will feature 18,800 square feet of retail space along 14th street, while the top six floors of the building will house 125 apartment units.

The apartment units consist of studios, one bedroom, and two bedroom homes that range from approximately 500 to 1,100 square feet. Most of the units will be on the smaller side, with only about 20 two bedroom units. But units will feature floor-to-ceiling windows for amazing natural light, and some will have balconies.

Amenities at the District include a lobby lounge, fitness center, and rooftop terrace. The rooftop will provide space for mingling with outdoor living rooms, an indoor kitchen and bar, a fire pit, a decorative water feature, and a sundeck.

The architect of the District complex is Shalom Baranes Associates, a DC firm. While Shalom Baranes handles the structure, the modern interior touches will be envisioned by Cecconi Simone, a Toronto-based interior design firm.

Developers broke ground on the District back in 2010, but construction is still underway. Be on the lookout for leasing information, which has not been released yet for the District.
