Dog Park Near Logan Circle

The Shaw Dog Park is a free dog park near Logan Circle. It’s just a few blocks away from the circle at 1673 11th Street in Northwest. The dog park is maintained by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation in partnership with the public. 

Shaw Dog Park opened in 2008 and consists of a 15,000-square-foot public park where dogs are free to play and socialize off-leash.  The park has two fenced enclosures for different speeds of dogs. The smaller enclosure, which holds up to five dogs, is for dogs under 25 pounds, physically challenged dogs, and senior dogs. The larger enclosure is for active play like ball tossing and running with a maximum of 28 dogs. The dog park near Logan Circle is open from 7 AM to 10 PM on weekdays and opens an hour later on weekends.

All dogs of DC residents who wish to enter the dog park near Logan Cirlce must have a current DC Dog License and Dog Exercise Area registration tag. In addition, dog handlers must be at least 16 years old. There is also a three dog limit per dog handler.

In 2010, the Shaw Dog Park received a grant for improvements. Those major renovations occurred in 2011 and included a complete overhaul of the surface, installation of tree boxes for crepe myrtles to provide shade, a new water faucet, benches, installation of a shade sail, and a new tool shed.

The dog park near Logan Circle is a gravel surface with lights at night, water, and poop bags. Plus, they have a double gate, so dogs don’t accidentally escape. It’s a friendly community of dog owners, who easily strike up conversations while the dogs play.
